Property & Use:

White or slightly yellow, hygroscopic granules, rods, or powder. Very soluble in water and liquid ammonia, sparingly soluble in methanol, ethanol, ether. Manufacture of diazo dyes, nitroso compds, and in many other processes of manufacture of organic chemicals; dyeing and printing textile fabrics; bleaching flax, silk, and linen; photography. In meat curing, coloring and preserving; in processing smoked chub. Also as reagent in analytical chemistry.
